Neil is the bestselling author of 101 Things I Learned in Film School (Grand Central Publishing, 2010). His numerous film and television credits include the cult teen comedy "Don't Tell Mom the Babysitter's Dead,” "Melrose Place," "The Magnificent Seven," "Doogie Howser, M.D.," "The Secret World of Alex Mack," “Twice in a Lifetime,” MTV's "Undressed,” plus one-hour drama TV pilots for CBS, ABC, Warner Bros., Disney, and Lifetime.
Neil’s new one hour drama series pilot, “East/West,” is currently set up at Freemantle and Mike Tollin Productions.
As a screenwriter, his forthcoming movie projects include the 3D animated feature “Tad Jones” (El Toro Pictures/Warner Bros., 2012). He is also Executive Producing “The Last Days of Superman,” based upon the novel by Edward Limonov, for Goldmann Pictures (“300”) which is slated to begin production in late 2011/early 2012. In addition, “Don’t Tell Mom the Babysitter’s Dead” is slated for a remake by Dreamworks.
As a Script Consultant, Neil worked for Sony Pictures (2004-2007), and most recently on the Goya-award-winning “Lope” (for Warner Bros. and El Toro Pictures, Spain, 2010) and “Bruc” (El Toro/ Universal Pictures, 2010). He’s also worked with many “A-list” screenwriters on many Hollywood blockbusters.
Neil served as Vice-President of Scripted Development for Amedia Film Group in Moscow, Russia (2007-08).
He currently teaches in the MFA in Screenwriting and Producing Programs at both UCLA School of Film & Television (his alma mater), and USC School of Cinematic Arts, and is a faculty advisor in the MFA in Writing Program at Goddard College
Neil is also a contributor to the new anthology, Now Write! Screenwriting (Penguin/Tarcher, 2011), and is busy working on a new book for Focal Press, for global publication in 2013.
Neil lives in Los Angeles and has two sons.
